SIALKOT, August 13 (PPI): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has urged the media to promote the soft image of Pakistan globally, saying that journalists are eyes and ears of the society, which could help bridge the सीओ


SIALKOT: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has urged the media to promote the soft image of Pakistan globally, saying that journalists are eyes and ears of the society, which could help bridge the communication gap between the rulers and the ruled.

She said that media could play an effective role in highlighting the public problems and government’s initiatives regarding the public welfare and socio-economic development of the country. She stated this while addressing the participants of the oath-taking ceremony of Sialkot Press Club Sialkot new office-bearers held here at Galaxy Hotel. Group Leader Hamid Ali Khan, local parliamentarians, district administration officials, business tycoons and the senior officials of Press Informational Department (PID) and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting were also present on the occasion.

Federal Information Minister took oath from Humayoun Iqbal Malik Chairman Sialkot Press Club, Dr. Shamas Javaid General Secretary,Abid Hussain Mehdi Senior Vice Chairman, Tariq Javaid Anjum Vice Chairman-I, Syed Shahid Ikram Vice Chairman-II, Khalid Lateef Joint Secretary, Imran Suhail Sial Finance Secretary and the members of Executive Committee of Sialkot Press Club (SPC) Haji Naseem-ul-Hassan Sadiqui, Danish Khan, Dr. Arshad Ehsan Elahi, Dr. Shahid Riaz and Muhammad Jamil Chaudhary. She said that the government was also making some effective and positive measures to provide the security of life to the journalists, besides protecting their rights.

Dr. Firdous urged the media to play its front line role in curbing the menace of the anti Pakistan and anti Islam. She said that the newsmen should criticize the government with positive sense, besides highlighting the government’s good initiatives in the larger national interest. Federal Information Minister revealed that the government was fully aware of the problems being faced by the newsmen and will leave no stone unturned to address their problems. She announced immediate installation of well-equipped computer lab at Sialkot Press Club by Ministry of Information, besides announcing Rs. 2 million special grant for the Press Club, saying that the grant would be given in two installments.
