Karzai’s visit postponed due to bad weather: FO

ISLAMABAD, Feb 19 (APP): Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s brief visit to Islamabad Thursday was postponed due to heavy snowfall in Kabul, Foreign Office Spokesman Abdul Basit said. “A new date for the visit of President Hamid Karzai will be announced later,” he said.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai was scheduled to hold talks with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minsiter Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani during his visit.

Incidently President Zardari’s visit to Kabul in January this year was also postponed owing to bad weather, but he managed to undertake the visit a few days later.

The ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan have seen a marked improvement since President Zardari assumed his office and the two leaders have interacted on several occasions.

The visit is likely to take place after President Zardari’s forthcoming visit to China from Feb 20.

President Zardari recently visited Kabul, while the Afghan President was the guest of honour on the swearing of President Zardari.

The two leaders also met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and met in Istanbul as part of second tripartite meeting to remove misunderstandings and strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
